Be Careful When You Put Up Your Christmas Lights

 In Blog

The holidays are fast-approaching, and homeowners all over Littleton, CO are excited to decorate their homes with decorations and beautiful Christmas lights. You know this because you probably walked out onto your driveway this morning and realized everyone’s house but yours is decked out in lights. Time to put an hour or two aside this weekend and get to it!

Before you get going on your outdoor Christmas decorations, it’s important to take a moment to note all the ways you can stay safe while up on your roof. The last thing you want is to ruin your own Christmas by winding up in the hospital.

Be Careful on that Ladder

Don’t be a hero! If stringing lights onto your home requires the use of a ladder, be sure to find another person to hold onto the base. Even with base grips, ladders can get slippery under snow and ice, and you could end up falling. Though, tempting as it may be, it’s never a good idea to stand on the very top of the ladder.

Prepare Your Roof For Winter

Snow and ice can make your roof a dangerous place to stand on during the wintertime.

Avoid Standing On the Roof

Standing on your roof is very dangerous, especially in cold and snowy weather. Without the proper safety equipment that a roof repair team would use, you could slip fall. Standing on your roof could also compromise the quality and efficiency of your shingles, which could come loose under your feet.

Stick to the Directions

We know, you’ve done this before. Still, it’s important to remind yourself of the proper assembly directions before you start stringing up your lights. If you don’t, you may end up shocking yourself or setting up the perfect scenario for a house fire. Don’t forget to keep an extinguisher nearby.
